IMPLEMENTATION OF REDUCTION OF SOCIAL EXCLUSION STRATEGY FOR ELDERLY PEOPLE THROUGH DEVELOPMENT OF THE SYSTEM OF COMPLEX SERVICES FOR SELF-SUPPORT SKILLS AND REHABILITATION SERVICES, WHILE USING THE EXPERIENCE OF NORWEGIAN PARTNERS

Project title: Implementation of reduction of social exclusion strategy for elderly people through development of the system of complex services for self-support skills and rehabilitation services, while using the experience of Norwegian partners

Project summary: Elderly people who are provided with social services become dependant on the competencies of attendant care specialists, social workers and assistants of social workers. The role of “an omniscient person” has become prevalent among specialists, i.e., the person knows the client’s needs better than the client himself or herself. Therefore, “a father’s or a mother’s and a child’s” relationships between elderly people and specialists have come into existence and the main reason for origin of such “a father’s or a mother’s and a child’s” relationships is an improper attitude towards elderly people. While providing services specialists devalue available skills of people advanced in years and because of their slackened thinking and movements specialists fulfil all the tasks instead of elderly people themselves. Due to unduly care and ward elderly people lose social skills that they have had before and they are not able to take care of themselves and their private life and do not manage take active part in public life any more.Target group: 62 direct benefit receivers: directors of various organisations working in the institutions, social workers, assistants of social workers, social care workers; indirect benefit receivers: 317 elderly people. Purpose of the project: To create a system of complex services for preserving and restoring skills of independent life of elderly people agreeable to work experience of Norwegian partners. The main activities: Specialists’ visit to Norway, creation of the system of complex services for preserving and restoring skills of independent life of elderly people, conducting theoretical – practical seminars, preparation and publication of a practical leader and arrangement of the final conference. Achievements (results) of the project: the system of complex services for preserving and restoring skills of independent life of elderly people will be created, specialists providing and organising social services will gain fresh knowledge and develop their skills.
